KOI Biosecurity Certificate

General Description: The Hazorea Aquatics Koi facility consists of a completely self-contained, bioecure facility in which Koi are bred, spawned, grown and packed for shipping. Hazorea does not raise Koi anywhere else except in this facility. No Koi are raised in the Hazorea outside ponds. Water Source: The Hazorea Aquatics Koi facility water supply is a direct connection to the Israel water supply. Surface water and/or water from other sources cannot enter the facility. Brood Stock and new additions:
- Koi brood stock is maintained in separate systems with independent water circulation. Temperature is maintained year round between 20ºC and 26ºC.
- Introductions of new stock from outside sources are authorized by The Israeli Veterinary Services. Thus, only fish from farms that are under the official surveillance of the Veterinary Services at the country of origin are accepted. Upon arrival, fish are maintained, monitored and tested for 12 months in a separate quarantine under surveillance of the Israel Veterinary Services, and can only be used upon receipt of their permission.
Equipment:
- All equipment used in the Koi facility remains in the facility at all times and is for the exclusive use of the facility.
- All new equipment is sterilized before introduction to the Koi facility
Access to Facility:
- The facility is completely enclosed. Entry is only through marked doors, with appropriate warning signs. The doors are kept locked at all times, even when personnel are inside.
- Access is restricted to defined personnel, after personal sterilization and change of footwear.
- Access of visitors is authorized only on condition that no preceding visits have been made to other fish farms. All visitors need to receive permission from the farm manager. Entry is only after personal sterilization and change of footwear.
- Animals, rodents or birds cannot enter the facility.
Fish Health Regime:
- Direct observation by experienced personnel.
- All fish are kept all year round at a constant temperature of 23ºC - 26ºC.
- A constant written record is kept of daily water parameters.
- Weekly microscopic parasitical tests are carried out on live and dead tissue samples.
- All treatments are recorded.
- All abnormal mortalities are logged. Dead fish are disposed off in a special secure burial pit.
- Surveillance by a Veterinarian from the Israeli Veterinary Services.
Regulatory Controls:
- Water samples are sent for monthly tests at the Ministry of Agriculture laboratories at Nir David.
- Random live Koi samples are tested every month for KHV by the Veterinary Services of Ministry of Agriculture (Kimron Veterinary Institute) by cell culture and PCR assay.
- Random serum samples are collected and sent by the Israeli Veterinary Services for Elissa testing at the CEFAS laboratories in England.
Traceability of Stock:
- Written records exist of all shipments of Koi made from the facility.
- Written records are kept of all customer complaints.
- All Koi leaving the facility can be traced.
Previous KHV incidences: There have never been any incidences of KHV in the Hazorea Biosecure Koi facility since the beginning of production in January 2002. The last incidence of KHV anywhere on the Hazorea farm was recorded in the outside field ponds in June 2001. |
